Grey’s Anatomy season 14 premiere: Boss on Caterina Scorsone reveal

If you watch Grey’s Anatomy in order to see Caterina Scorsone receive great material, then there is a really good chance that you enjoyed the season 14 premiere on Thursday night. However, it’s also rather hard to say the word “enjoy” in this context, given that the tow episodes effectively ended with her receiving the news that she has a brain tumor. She learned about it in a rather surprising way — the MRI results that came in during the sex study run by Andrew’s sister — and she now has to figure out how to deal with this.

For Scorsone, this reveal will likely lead to some great material as she has to figure out how to navigate this new normal in her life — the preview for the next episode teased that she could have some trouble telling Owen.

One of the other questions that you have to wonder in the aftermath of this reveal is simply this: Are we going to see a different side of Amelia now that she knows about this, and is her recent behavior a condition of what’s going on with her brain tumor? In speaking about that more in a new interview with TVLine, executive producer Krista Vernoff had the following to say:

“[It] is indeed safe to assume [that the illness and her behavior are linked]. And you can look forward to the [story delving into the] complexity of what it is to have a marriage in crisis and then find out there’s this illness, and then potentially know that the illness caused the crisis. Does that allow you to come back from the crisis?”

The first order of business here is going to see if the tumor is treatable, and if it is, maybe Amelia can come through on the other side of it okay. One of the other problems now is the simple fact that Teddy is back, and as Amelia pointed out to Owen tonight, she’s been in love with him forever. When the two kissed, you easily got that vibe, but Teddy then told him that she didn’t want to be the other woman and didn’t want this to be the way in which their relationship began. She wanted something different in the event that their lives ever make it to this point, and we’ll just have to wait and see precisely what ends up happening there in that regard. One of the things that you do always have to remember with a show like Grey’s Anatomy is that this is a really long show, and as a result of that there is always time for the storyline to go in a million different directions.
