Courtney Grosbeck cast in Homeland; Necar Zadegan cast in new Alan Ball series

Courtney Grosbeck

Parenthood alum Coutrney Grosbeck is set to recur in Showtime’s Emmy-winning series Homeland starring Claire Danes.

According to Deadline, Grosback has booked the role of Josie, Carrie’s (Danes) youngest niece. Josie is described as “politically conscious and staunchly anti-Keane, she’s the kind of teenager who protests the administration on weekends.”

The role is going to bring something to the long-running drama series. How will she play into the complicated life that’s her aunt’s? That yet to be seen, however, we can guess that she could cause some problems, given that she likes to protest people in power. Although on the other hand, Carrie is also contemplating her country right now in the wake of what happened with President Kane at the end of this past season. Either way, we look forward to Josie’s arrival since it will expose another key part of Washington politics today.

Before you see her on Homeland, you can catch Grosbeck in the upcoming indie thriller The Neighborhood.

Deadline is also reporting the casting of Necar Zadegan who has booked a recurring role on Six Feet Under and True Blood‘s Alan Ball’s new drama series on HBO. Zadegan will star alongside Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter as Layla Shokrani. Other than the characters name, not much else is known about Zadegan’s role.

The untitled 10-episode series “focuses on a contemporary multi-racial family: philosophy professor Greg Bishop (Robbins), his lawyer wife Audrey (Hunter), their three adopted children from Somalia (Jerrika Hinton of Grey’s Anatomy fame), Vietnam (Raymond Lee) and Colombia (Daniel Zovatto), and their sole biological child (Sosie Bacon). This seemingly perfect, progressive family is in actuality harboring deep rifts.”

Could Zadegan play a family friend who has knowledge about the family’s problems? She could be or she could be completely in the dark about it. If the latter is true then it would allow the series to have a character that represents the audience, given that the audience is in the dark as well and needs explaining.

The overall concept of the series is intriguing and we can’t wait to find out more about this show. Ball has the reputation of making great, thought-provoking drama.

Before you check her out in Alan Ball’s new series, be sure to watch Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. Recently, she was cast on Jeff Davis’ pilot Let the Right One In on TNT.
