Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Ellen Pompeo, Shonda Rhimes, more take a knee
To be specific on the Grey’s Anatomy front, you can see Rhimes, Ellen Pompeo, and Jesse Williams all taking a knee below as a means of expressing solidarity with the NFL in the pursue of justice for everyone. It’s a small but powerful image, and if evokes even more what is being fought for in this country. This is a show that touches a great deal on various political issues, whether it be both in the story and with the actors away from it.
The landmark 300th episode could contain some political overtures; for now, what we know is that it’s presumably going to air later this fall and is being directed by executive producer Debbie Allen. At this point, getting to 300 episodes is such a rare feat in television that you almost have to celebrate any time that it happens. This is a show that has certainly earned everything it’s receiving in terms or praise for being innovative, timely, and even funny at times. Early indications at the moment are that you’re going to get a little bit of humor coming up in this milestone hour. After all, this is something that the show is emphasizing more than ever entering season 14.
Could there be a separate story on Grey’s Anatomy more directly inspired by the Kaepernick movement? That would be interesting, especially given the Seattle Seahawks and Michael Bennett’s role in it. Nonetheless, the show doesn’t actually film in Seattle and that makes it a little more challenging (even though they did a little bit of pickup work that was done in the city earlier in the summer).
