Roseanne revival: Emma Kenney taps key role
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kenney is set to join ABC’s 8-episode reboot as a new series regular. Kenney is currently a series regular on Showtime‘s Shameless playing Debbie Gallagher. Her character in the Roseanne Revival is named Harris.
If fans will recall Harris was introduced during Season 9 when Darlene delivered her baby prematurely. In the revival it will be revealed that Harris’s life got a little more complicated. She has moved to Chicago from Lanford, Illinois, and isn’t exactly thrilled to be there. Nonetheless, she’s going to do everything that she can to move forward and drive herself towards making her dreams come true. She’ll show some typical teenage behavior, but underneath all of that is a woman with a big heart.
Harris’s personality is sure to cause some stir, but this also brings a great new dynamic to the show and we look forward to seeing how or if this affects her relationship with her parents.
Kenney is also the second newcomer to join the show. Newcomer Ames McNamara has joined the series playing David and Darlene’s young son Mark who is named after the David’s brother.
Original stars Roseanne Barr (Roseanne), John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Gilbert (who also exec produces), Michael Fishman (DJ), Lecy Goranson (Becky) and Sarah Chalke (who also played Becky but is returning for a new role) are confirmed to come back for the reboot. Galecki who plays Dr. Leonard Hofstadter on CBS’ Big Bang Theory, which is produced by a different studio than Roseanne is also set to return though an official confirmation has yet to come in.
Roseanne joins the number of shows that have been revived in the last year. NBC has the reboot of Will & Grace premiering this fall, while Netflix has had Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Besides Roseanne ABC is also bring back American Idol, which will air this season. Most of the revivals have far well with audiences as well as critics.
There is no specific premiere date for the Roseanne revival just yet other than midseason next year, but we are hopeful that it will be announced soon. Once we know, we will let you know. For those who love Emma Kenney, Shameless season 8 will be premiering later this fall.
