The Blacklist season 5 episode 3 spoilers: Is a big Ressler story ahead?
On The Blacklist season 5 episode 3 airing on NBC in just a matter of days, you will have an opportunity to see something that could be in demand from many of you: A great Ressler storyline. One of the challenges with this show is finding a way to constantly make sure that everyone within the ensemble is getting a little bit of love. You don’t want any character to suffer over the course of a long story arc, so you need to just find some interesting ways in which to get everyone involved.
For The Blacklist season 5 episode 3, it looks like in particular one of the priorities is going to be giving Diego Klattenhoff’s character of Agent Ressler a little more time in the spotlight. The title for this upcoming hour is “Miss Rebecca Thrall,” and the synopsis below gives you a sense of what is coming for him:
“While the Task Force investigates a series of suspicious police shootings, Agent Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) is distracted by increasing external pressures. With his back up against the wall, Red (James Spader) drafts Tom (Ryan Eggold) in executing an elaborate plan to help re-establish his criminal reputation. Michael Aronov, Clark Middleton, Aida Turturro and Sarah Wynter guest star.”
We’re all for ensuring that Ressler gets good storylines, given that we were coming off one of his better ones with Julian Gale at the end of this past season. There was something fascinating about him being at odds with someone who had legitimate reasons to be questioning the FBI Task Force and some of their work. We would love to see this remain a factor in the show in some way, given that it makes sense that there would be skeptics of the work that the Task Force does. In all honesty, there should be skeptics when you consider some of the shade stuff that they’re doing helping Reddington with his criminal empire.
In speaking more about James Spader’s character for a moment, this does ultimately lead to another question: What in the world could be coming up with him and Tom? Over the first episode or two, we’re going to be very much aware of the fact that Tom is in possession of a suitcase, one whose comments could end up leaving a huge mark on Reddington’s empire and his future. How we end up seeing this story evolve outward from here is one of the things we’re the most curious about going into season 5. Is there a way that Reddington can turn this around and not get so much suspicion firing off in his direction?

Ressler has been inching his way to the other side, crossing lines everywhere while maintaining much of his honor. Though he’s not on the far side of things like Red is, their intent is the same. It’s all for the greater good. Now they’ve got him in this arc that’s perfect for him specifically. Gale stepping in made Ressler realize he’s no longer the agent that he used to be. I would love to see Ressler and Liz have conversations about this. Especially since she went through something rather similar with the Harbormaster back in season two.
I do believe the suitcase is going to be huge. I maintain the belief that it contains the bones of Red’s first-born daughter, the Mako Tanida ballerina. A death that I believe will lead Liz to learn about Red’s Hobson’s choice, and what choices he made for Katarina that led to her death. But I also believe it’s going to bring danger along with it. A danger that will be coming for Red rather than Liz. Still, I feel it equally dangerous for her, since now that she knows Red is her father, she’ll do anything to protect him. Given the truth she will learn of her mother’s death at the same time, I feel it will play out a little bit like the first half of season four. Last season, it was the danger in Liz being Red’s daughter. This season, I believe it’s going to be the danger in Red being Liz’s father, and I believe that will stem from the night of the fire. Because she fatally shot someone, and it wasn’t her father. I believe it was someone else’s.
