Chicago PD season 5 cast photo: See Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, and more
The image above is one of the first ones released by the network for the upcoming batch of episodes, and there are a few clear changes about it. For one, you have relative newcomer Tracy Spiridakos featured prominently, which comes following the much-discussed exit of Sophia Bush. This image also features prominently the return of Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson, who began season 4 with Intelligence before going off to join the cast of Chicago Justice for its brief run over at NBC.
Beyond some of the cast changes, one of the visual differences here is that Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) is one of the only cast members on the show wearing anything that actually resembles a traditional police uniform. Burgess (Marina Squerciati) is now with Intelligence, as well, and that continues to make it interesting as to how the show will feature Platt. She’s not out in the street, but there are still very specific circumstances in which the characters could interact with her.
In terms of the entire story and the characters, one of the things that we are fairly confident about is that you’re going to be getting some great story ahead for one Jay Halstead. Remember that at the end of Chicago PD season 4, Jay was planning to propose to Lindsay. Now that she has departed and is now in New York, where is that going to leave him as a character? Is he going to be off scrambling, and trying his best to find a home? That is one of the interesting things that we’re wondering at the moment. Beyond that, most of this season could revolve around what it means to be a police officer in 2017, and we mean that in terms of some of the challenges when there is so much distrust. How these characters continue to manage that will be a big part of the show.
Given that this is still a part of the massive One Chicago franchise, one of the things that we’re almost sure of at the moment is that there will continue to be rather large crossovers from one show to the next. While nothing significant may be confirmed just yet, you have to think that they will be an integral part of all of the shows. After all, just remember how much the ratings for the shows all benefit from these crossovers taking place … even if it is rather hard to schedule them from time to time.
