The Blacklist season 5 trailer: Reddington needs a little help…

Today, NBC unleashed a full The Blacklist season 5 trailer upon all of us, and it feels pretty darn easy to have one blanket response to this: Joy. How can you not be thrilled at the prospect of checking out some new and very-exciting footage of the show in action?

At the focal point of this new trailer is Reddington realizing that, in the aftermath of everything that Mr. Kaplan did at the end of this past season, he has no clear future. With that, he suddenly needs to figure out how to leverage his own daughter Liz and the FBI in order to get himself back on his feet with his criminal empire. We love how funny this trailer is, especially in terms of Reddington one-liners. One of the best ones comes via him saying that in order to restart his empire, he’s going to need to get his pants first. (Liz actually will be a huge asset in him getting back out there, mostly because she’s lacking a case and struggling to figure out a way to find her own place without the operation.)

While they may cause all sorts of chaos and problems for the FBI, there’s no denying that Reddington and Liz are the perfect pair for much of what they do, and it feels like now Liz isn’t so burdened by doing everything the right way. The show feels more like a romp, and while we imagine that there will be some tough times ahead, there’s also going to be some comedy. The show is moving to a new timeslot Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, and it feels as though the writers are embracing this spot to cultivate a show that’s a little bit lighter and more in the vein of the first season. Reddington will be working to assemble a new crew of criminals, while working to take out some other ones at the same exact time.

Overall, this is probably the most excited we’ve been for a new Blacklist season since the beginning, and we’ve got more good stuff coming at CarterMatt. After all, there is a new interview coming premiere week with showrunner Jon Bokenkamp!
