Ray Donovan season 5 episode 6 video: Jon Voight on Mickey’s screenwriting

Ray Donovan season 5 episode 6 is coming to Showtime this weekend, and for us one of the more enjoyable storylines of the season is Mickey’s new screenwriting pursuit. We do understand why the character would fashion himself a writer of great talent — he’s been around the block, he’s seen a lot, and he has the capability of spinning an interesting yearn. It also doesn’t somehow surprise us at all that this guy would want to write out a screenplay using a typewriter. After all, this is just the sort of thing that is old-school and very meticulous; sometimes, Mickey has been that with his planning.

The new video below via Showtime features Jon Voight speaking on his storytelling, and some sequences that are bound to be considered CarterMatt favorites even at the end of the year. It absolutely makes all the sense in the world that a guy like Mickey would try and resort to bribes and petty threats in order to get someone to consider his screenplay, just as he would smack them across the face the moment that they started to disparage him. While we don’t have a whole lot of a sense as to where this storyline is going, it’s hard to be altogether upset when the journey so far has shown itself to be so entertaining.

In one way or another, the movie business has overtaken many other big-time stories on Ray Donovan season 5. After all, remember that we’re getting a chance to see at the moment Ray try to manage things with both Sam Winslow and Natalie James … to varying degrees of success. Given Ray’s ties to the industry, it probably makes all the more sense that Mickey would try to get himself mixed up in all of this.

Beyond just the story in the present, there is also still the journey in the past to understand how the Donovan family coped with the death of Abby following her battle with cancer. While it is not focused in the video below, we know that it will be a big part of this upcoming episode.
