Designated Survivor season 2 premiere spoilers: First look at ‘One Year In’

Designated Survivor season 2 premiere

Are you ready for the Designated Survivor season 2 premiere to be here? “One Year In” will kick off the journey of Kirkman once more! This is going to be the starting-off point for a new batch of episodes, and also a slight change to the series given that you do now have Kiefer Sutherland’s character of President Kirkman more accustomed to his role. The show will become a little more similar to The West Wing, where there will be more White House stories and a relative amount of stability. Does this mean we’re losing the off-the-rails storytelling and surprises from the first season of the show? Hardly. It just means that the show is looking to evolve a little bit, which makes some sense given that you can’t just do the same thing year after year. That’s especially true with this show, given that if you are to tell the same story with Kirkman over time some of the big “shockers” are probably going to start to feel a little more numb and insignificant.

If you look below, via ABC, you can see what the official synopsis is for the premiere:

“In the season two premiere episode of ABC’s hit drama “Designated Survivor,” Kiefer Sutherland returns as President Tom Kirkman. Now, one year into office, Kirkman is a Commander-in-Chief determined to rebuild the Capitol and capture the terrorists behind the catastrophic attack on the United States. When Ukrainian nationalists hijack a Russian Air flight, the president is faced with a hostage situation in which his diplomatic skills are put to the test.”

The part of this synopsis that we at CarterMatt are mostly excited about is how Kirkman rebuilds the Capitol and figures out a way to get the right people around him again. That’s not going to be an easy thing for him to do, especially since in this political landscape there will be an abundance of opportunistic people looking to take advantage of where he is and the sort of power that he attracts.

As for the Ukrainian nationalists, this should just make for a nice little action set piece — we just how there is enough time in the episode to really set the table for how complicated this situation truly is.
