The Punisher spoilers: Expect a very different series from Marvel’s The Defenders

While The Defenders may have had its fair share of exciting moment,s it also was heightened and at times crazy. There were characters with superpowers, huge criminal organizations, and a guy in Luke Cage who is virtually indestructible. In some of The Punisher spoilers we have for you today, we have at the center of it a reminder that Frank Castle is very much a vulnerable man. He can be hurt, and he can have a wide array of different things done to him. He’s human, he’s tragic in so many ways, and he’s brutal. This is someone who does what he does for a series of rather specific reasons. He’s different than Iron Fist, Daredevil, or any of those heroes.

The Punisher will be the next series in the Marvel – Netflix chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to start streaming, and while speaking with Entertainment Weekly Jon Bernthal offered up a little more in the way of discussion about what makes this show so different from some of the other ones that are out there:

“We are stripping down every supernatural element … This show is different. It looks different. Frank is a character rooted in the most basic human emotions… He’s a comic-book character, but he doesn’t fly, he doesn’t have X-ray vision. He’s an unbelievably skilled soldier who’s been very, very angry and very, very hurt.”

Do we anticipate The Punisher paying true homage to the comics? At the moment we absolutely think so given that Netflix affords Marvel the opportunity to do just that. From a viewer standpoint you better be prepared for there to not be a whole lot of light in this show, mostly because Castle is not a character who allows for it. There’s no reason to dilute anything here, and there’s no reason to shy away from anything overtly brutal. We anticipate this being an exciting, action-packed show with a lot of darkness to it and one with a specific message regarding battling your demons. While we don’t think that The Punisher will beat you over the head with morality, it will say something about how far we go to test our limits and also if there are times in which resorting to violence is not the answer. Frank made the decisions that he made, but he’s also going to suffer for it in his own regard.
