America’s Got Talent finalist spotlight: How Kechi can win

Kechi

For the second straight year, we are here to kick off one of our favorite article series: The America’s Got Talent finalist spotlights. There are ten people now in the running for the grand prize, but only one of them can win. Can any of them, including Kechi. take home the grand prize? You can debate that if you’d like in the comments, but we’re assuming within this series that they can.

Today, we at CarterMatt are going to look more extensively at the emotional singer, whose voice and story as a plane-crash survivor has carried her through this season. She’s showcased a lot of power and strength through every single performance, and she also seems like a genuinely nice person happy for the opportunity and to have a break in life.

As for whether or not any of this means she’s got a good chance of winning, let’s try to examine that a little more.

Her strengths – Kechi is extremely accomplished when it comes to taking on songs that she can bring both power and vulnerability to. They echo her story and showcase the sort of performer that she wants to be. She’s someone who doesn’t need a lot of frills, and there’s something very likable about that. She comes out on stage, delivers her performance, and works to bring you in to her world and her story.

What do she need to watch out for? – Song choice. We said this with Angelica Hale, and we’ll say it again. For Kechi, she’s walked a fine line the past two live shows doing songs that aren’t commercially all that popular. She’s lucky in the sense that she got the Dunkin’ Save this past week, since we’re not sure she would have been saved by the judges over Diavolo or Colin Cloud, even if the latter isn’t in the finale now. The right song choice can get more votes in her favor, and she probably needs to relate more to some of the younger viewers who are watching.

How she wins – A great song, a great connection to the viewers watching, and also a reminder of her bravery and resilience. We need to see more of the woman that she is today; we know the survivor that she is, but that story has been toughed on enough now that it’s hard to know just how much more the producers are going to be able to add to it. She’s a definite longshot to win, but given that we’ve seen Michael Grimm and other surprise contenders take home the title before, we’re not ruling her out completely.
