America’s Got Talent finalist spotlight: How Angelica Hale can win

For the second straight year, we are here to kick off one of our favorite article series: The America’s Got Talent finalist spotlights. There are ten people now in the running for the grand prize, but only one of them can win. Can any of them, including Angelica Hale. take home the grand prize? You can debate that if you’d like in the comments, but we’re assuming within this series that they can.

Today, we at CarterMatt are going to look more extensively at the young singer, who is really one of the last of her kind standing. At one point when you had Angelina Green, Celine Tam, Angelica Hale, and Christian Guardino, we were starting to think that the competition was going to get super crowded with this type of performer. Technically you do also have Evie Clair, but we do tend to think of her as an older soul because of everything that she has been through.

Below, we’re going to do our best to assess some of what Angelica brings to the table as she begins her final push.

Her strengths – A huge voice. Even though she’s so young, she can hit notes that nobody else in the competition can. She can sing almost any song under the sun, she’s likable, and she’s got a good story with her sibling just being born and with her going through a lot at a young age. She’s someone people are going to want to root for, and traditionally, America’s Got Talent loves both singers and young performers. Grace VanderWaal won last season, and the very first winner in Bianca Ryan was a young singer in her own right.

What do she need to watch out for? – Song choice. She needs to be able to figure out a way to take on songs that are going to showcase her range without feeling derivative. For the sake of all that is good, please no covers of “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. She needs something with a good melody, something reasonably current, and something that will connect with both viewers new and old. If she can do that, then maybe she can take the victory home.

How she wins – By going out, doing another huge, recognizable song, and making sure that she gets all of the judges to stand up and cheer for her. There are a lot of singers in the finale and that hurts her, but if she does something that none of the other singers can do, there is a reasonably good chance that she has of at least making it into the top five. We give her an outside chance of winning, but it’d probably take the performance of her life to pull it off.
