The Originals season 5 spoilers: Candice King returning, but for how long?

Klaroline reunion

How long could the latest Klaroline reunion last on The Originals season 5? Let’s just say Candice King may make an appearance long enough to satisfy many a longtime fan of this show and The Vampire Diaries to date.

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Julie Plec confirmed that King would be bringing her character of Caroline Forbes on at least two episodes of the CW show’s final season, and that’s just “so far.” With the way in which that King describes it, you get the sense that there could be more appearances for her down the line if things work out the way that they want. The idea of a Klaroline reunion is obviously one of the biggest appeals to bringing her back — Stefan died during The Vampire Diaries series finale, and given the passage of time Caroline’s been able to deal from that. There’s always been chemistry with Klaus, and if he can reform himself enough to appeal to her romantic side, why wouldn’t she want to have a relationship with him?

Many months ago it felt fairly obvious that King could be making an appearance on The Originals, largely because of the way the fourth season ended for Klaus’ daughter Hope. The child was sent off to the supernatural school owned by Caroline at the end of season 4, and all of a sudden there was an instant reason for Klaus and Caroline to interact again. Add to this the fact that they have a lot of romantic chemistry and that Klaus gave financially to the show, and it feels like a lock that King and Joseph Morgan will share some scenes. This is the final season of the series, so if there was ever a chance to establish his endgame, time is very much of the essence!

Alas, the sad thing for us here at CarterMatt is that this Klaroline reunion is one that we’re not going to be seeing on television until you get around to the new year. After all, The Originals is not on the fall schedule, and the plan right now is for the 13 episodes that conclude the series to air either in the winter or the spring. We’re just grateful for the time being that there’s going to even be a final season for The Originals given that for the longest time nothing was altogether assured when it comes to the show and its future. It was not guaranteed to last on the air without The Vampire Diaries around.
