Does Hawaii Five-0 alum Daniel Dae Kim have a new role?

Daniel Dae Kim

When the news was announced that Daniel Dae Kim was leaving Hawaii Five-0, CarterMatt knew he wouldn’t be out of work for long. What we didn’t realize is just how awesome his new reported gig was going to be.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kim is in talks to replace Ed Skrein in the upcoming Hellboy reboot as Ben Daimio. This is a role that has already generated a substantial amount of controversy, saying that the role is Japanese-American, and is being “whitewashed” with the casting of a white actor. Skrein chose to drop out by penning an emotional letter, one that has led to him receiving great praise and his acclaim for changing Hollywood’s casting culture.

We know that Kim should be great in the part based on what we’ve seen of him on TV, both in terms of Hawaii Five-0 and also Lost. He’s capable of playing strong, intense characters, but also with a hint of sweetness and kindness somewhere underneath. He should do a great job here, and it’s nice to see him getting some notable parts in big-budget productions. With that said, we do still want to see him on TV in the future! That is our medium of choice here at CarterMatt, and it’d be fun to see him take on a comedic role or something romantic and sweet. Also wouldn’t want to see him starring in a Netflix romantic comedy, or his own mystery show that is a little more about sleuthing and a little less about action? We do know that Kim is an executive producer on ABC’s The Good Doctor, so we do wonder if the door is open for him to make an appearance there at some point in the future.

Hawaii Five-0 has moved on from Kim and fellow departing co-star Grace Park by bringing in Meaghan Rath and Beulah Koale. Meanwhile, they have also promoted a number of other recurring guest stars to series regular, including Ian Anthony Dale and Taylor Wily. New episodes of the show are going to start airing later this month. We’d love to believe that the show could bring back Kim or Park at some point down the line for a guest spot, such as in a milestone episode or a season/series finale. However, there is no guarantee that will ever happen and there absolutely isn’t any discussion of it happening right now. Let’s just cross our fingers and wait and see what happens.
