First Criminal Minds season 13 promo all about cliffhanger aftermath
CBS has unveiled now the first Criminal Minds season 13 promo, and there’s one big takeaway from it: Drama. The show isn’t really interested in disclosing too many big events coming up down the road on the show, but they’re more than happy to tease a few things in the aftermath of the latest cliffhanger.
Let’s start things off here at CarterMatt by reminding everyone out there for a moment what that cliffhanger was: An epic car collision, one that put many members of the BAU in grave danger. If the show is planning to write off Stephen Walker (Damon Gupton), they have created an easy way for them to do so. That’s a shame for Walker, since he didn’t get that much of an opportunity to shine.
Nonetheless, losing Walker at this point could be a way to mobilize the rest of the team. We’re not sure that anyone NEEDED more of a reason to go after Mr. Scratch given what he and his cohorts have done to the team over the course of the season, but they got one nonetheless. From here, the next order of business is effectively simple: Revenge by whatever means necessary. They will be on a race against time to find the adversary and stop him, and they will have at the same time some great help in the form of Daniel Henney’s Matt Simmons! The character is making his long-awaited debut as a series regular here, and we are excited in turn to see more of what he brings to the table here. There is obviously going to be drama with him coming on board the show, but we also think that he’s one of those characters who can also bring a little bit of humor. Henney will probably bring a lot of different dimensions to this part, and it’s going to be exciting seeing how he integrates with the remainder of the team and what his relationships are like with each character. We know that Garcia, for example, wasn’t all that kind to Luke Alvez when he first arrived. Will she treat Simmons a little bit different? We feel like she will, largely because there was that discussion with Morgan at the end of the season 12 finale.
Think of this episode ultimately as a foundation to some more great stuff that will be coming down the road this season. CBS has kept most of the details of this episode a secret, and we at CarterMatt are curious to see where things go from here. What we do know is that multiple members of the cast are all stepping into the director’s chair, and we’re very much curious to see what they do with the material.
