Is Twin Peaks new tonight on Showtime? Why season 4 hopes exist

Twin Peaks new tonight

Is Twin Peaks new tonight on Showtime? Based on what was most recently on the show, we understand the demand.

Last week’s new episodes ended with one of the most ambiguous, complicated endings out there. We’ve heard plenty of discussion about it — some loved it and feel as though it was emotional, atmospheric, and signature David Lynch storytelling. Others hated it. The same sort of divide seems to exist as to whether or not there should be a fourth season of the show.

We do think as though the enthusiasm for a fourth season is certainly out there; we’ve seen it online, as well as with some critics. However, that doesn’t seem to be something that is actually in the cards at the moment. Series star Kyle MacLachlan has already suggested in the past that he hasn’t heard anything about the cast and crew getting back together and doing more. Even though the ratings weren’t great, the number of Showtime subscribers could be enough to bring the show back … in theory, at least.

In the event that there ever is any more Twin Peaks, we have a hard time imagining it coming back for at least another couple of years. Just remember how long it took for this third, “revival” season of the show to come on the air. You would have to get the cast back together, and this in itself is not going to be an easy feat in the slightest. Then, once you get to the other side of that, the next challenge is going to be finding a way to tell another interesting compelling story.

The reality here with Twin Peaks seems to be this: There is always going to be a demand for more episodes, one way or another. The larger question that you have to wonder here is whether or not you are going to ever get an ending for this show that is anything other than ambiguous. Personally, we think that even if there were another three or four seasons of this show, we still think that the series would end in roughly the same sort of way in a similar sort of mood. If this is the end of the story, it’s the end of the story and we just have to move on from here. Maybe Mark Frost and Lynch at some point in the future can come up with something new. Their new relationship with Showtime may afford them some possibilities if they would like to explore some other territory.
