Empire season 4 premiere wishlist: Lucious’ sense of struggle

Empire season 4 premiereWith today’s Empire season 4 premiere wishlist, we’re making our goals fairly simple: Encouraging more Lucious Lyon storytelling. Given everything that transpired at the end of season 3, Terrence Howard’s character is poised to have the greatest story that he has since arguably the pilot of the show. He’s lost and disoriented, and given that he was the driving force of his family for better or worse, we’ve got a feeling that a whole lot of other people are also going to be feeling lost and disoriented.

With that, we hope that much of the premiere serves as a great reflection of where Lucious is, and some of the characters struggle with that in their own way. Take a look below for some more suggestions as to how to make this the best premiere Empire has had since the very beginning.

1. Don’t rush Lucious along – We want to see the amnesia be a process that takes a good bit of time to be cured, even if it is somewhat of a longstanding TV trope. Hopefully, the writers give us some chances to see this story breathe, and understand more of who this version of Lucious before flipping the switch.

2. Show Andre’s struggle – Obviously, his role in what transpired to Lucious is clear, and he’s complicit in everything that the character is now thinking and feeling. The main goal for the character now should be trying to piece together the remnants of his life, and figure out if there is a right, proper way for him to move forward in the midst of so much chaos. We want to root for Andre, but he’s a guy who makes it so difficult on himself much of the time.

3. How is Cookie coping? – Obviously, she’s well aware of the torment that Lucious causes in her life on a regular basis; yet, there’s almost an order within the chaos, and an understanding as to who he was. Not having that could be destabilizing, and we like the idea of someone who is often so confident floundering. She’s had some time to get accustomed to him being in a coma; now, she gets a chance to become accustomed to him being around.

4. More Demi Moore news – We know that she’s coming on for a significant role, but it has to be about more than just being Lucious’ nurse. You don’t have to resolve the mystery within the premiere, but the quicker you do that and the better off the overall show is going to be.

5. Some brief career updates – Give us a small sense of how Jamal and Hakeem are doing in their careers — hopefully, one of them is doing really well! Someone should benefit, after all, from the present situation.
