Criminal Minds season 13 spoilers: Will Spencer Reid move forward?
With that said, the majority of the series is going to be about seeing Spencer Reid back in the field with the team which is something that we couldn’t be happier about! He’s going to still work on solving crimes with the BAU, but it is a very different sort of gig for him than what he had in the past. He cannot just pretend that some of this stuff didn’t happen to him, but knowing Spencer, he’s going to find a way to learn from his experience and use it in his work.
Speaking on the subject of Reid’s trauma in an interview with TVLine, series star Matthew Gray Gubler had the following to say:
“There’s definitely PTSD, and the premiere deals with that. Is he even fit to face the crisis at hand? Can he even hold a gun at this point?”
Do we think that Reid will be able to bounce back? Absolutely, but it’s not as easy as just seeing him go out on a case and be totally fine. This is a man that hasn’t been exposed to something like jail before, so it’s going to take a while to move forward. Knowing what we do about Criminal Minds the series, we do firmly anticipate that the show is going to be able to craft another great story for him and in turn give us another great performance from Gubler. He’s coming off of one of his best years to date, and CarterMatt even felt that his performance last season was Emmy-worthy.
Beyond just the Spencer Reid story, there’s obviously a good bit of other good stuff to look forward to as well. For one, we’re going to have Daniel Henney come on board as Matt Simmons, and the cool thing there is that if you watched Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, you do have a good feel for what this guy is like and how he’s going to be able to fit in with the rest of the BAU. There is also the continuation of the Mr. Scratch story in the season premiere, and we’ll hopefully get a chance to see what else ends up befalling the team. With this show, there is always new threats around every turn.

I agree, Matthew Gray Gubler deserved an Emmy for his performance in Season 12 of Criminal Minds. I am looking forward to another masterful performance by Matthew in Season 13 of Criminal Minds.
