Star season 2: Keke Palmer to recur for upcoming season
According to Deadline, Palmer is set to play the role of Gigi, “a hot recording artist who is ‘ratchet and rich.’ While alienating her current label, she is courted by Ayanna and the group’s new label, Midtown records. Despite all the showy glitz, Gigi is a serious musician, looking for ‘good producers and bomb ass records.’ ”
Palmer’s role is certainly going to shake things up for the ladies of Big Trouble because Gigi is either going to be a friend, a foe or even possibly a little of both. Based on Gigi’s descriptions the girls may judge a book by its cover before getting to know the “serious musician” that she is deep down. Maybe the girls will learn a thing or two from her. Gigi is brave enough to leave her current label because she wants to be a success. Now we aren’t saying Big Trouble needs to do the same, but maybe they can learn from her drive that sometimes you have to make even harder sacrifices to reach your dreams.
Now the girls of Big Trouble have definitely had their fair share of difficulties, but it could be that they need to do something about the people in their lives.
The ladies could completely hate Gigi and her presence at the label, it’s really a toss up. If Gigi were to be a foe it would give the group some competition and maybe that’s the push they need. The competition would also help them focus more on their careers and remind them of why they love to sing.
Palmer’s previous credits include playing Marty Maraschino on Fox’s Grease Live! and Zayday Williams in Scream Queens. She also starred on Broadway playing the title role of Cinderella in Roger and Hammerstein’s musical, Cinderella. You can catch her this fall also on Epix’s Berlin Station.
Star follows three talented singers in the group called Big Trouble who have ambitions of stardom but have to learn to navigate the difficult world of the music business while simultaneously trying to put their pasts behind them and start anew. The show stars Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Jude Demorest, Brittany O’Grady, Ryan Destiny, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown, Miss Lawrence and Michael Michele.
