Outlander season 3: Sam Heughan on Live! with Kelly & Ryan + more

Today, dear Outlander fans, is a day that we here at CarterMatt would like to call an embarrassment of riches. We’re not altogether sure how to keep up with it all, given that there are so many different interviews and fun things going on. Therefore, we’re probably going to have both a morning and an evening Outlander update for you, and we’re going to kick things off by discussing Sam Heughan on Live! with Kelly & Ryan. This interview aired on Tuesday, and we do think there are several fun little moments in here.

One of the things that always makes us smile about seeing people on the morning talk-show circuit the most is that they all have a ton of energy, and this is mostly because at around this time on the West Coast we’re either still asleep or just starting to down copious amounts of coffee. Seeing Sam Heughan on Live! with Kelly & Ryan was great for many reasons, but at the top of this list was seeing him do a super-delightful little jig on his way out to meet the hosts. He danced with many people in attendance, received some love notes, and embraced the general lightheartedness that is the Live! environment.

Okay, there is still one flaw to the interview: How many times do we have to hear questions about what’s underneath the kilt? Seriously? Use your imagination, people! The truth here, though, is that the Live! with Kelly & Ryan audience is different than most other venues since you’re appealing to a very different crowd. As much as we’d love to hear him discuss the intricacies of performing action scenes alongside Tobias Menzies or how he taps into the feelings of longing and pain that he’ll need early on in season 3, this isn’t a show geared towards the diehard fans. Having him on the show is great since it exposes his talent to a larger audience, and in turn that may mean even more Outlander fans. The show’s elevated Outlander profile is giving the cast more opportunities to do big-time shows this year, and that is something worth celebrating.

Also, movie fans should note that Sam speaks briefly in here about The Spy Who Dumped Me, the movie that he has been working on this summer.

One of the interviews that came out of the red-carpet premiere event was with Access Hollywood, which you can see below as he talks about how he’d like to see Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran on the show. Ed’s coming off of a high-profile appearance already on Game of Thrones … which he got a lot of jeers for online through no fault of his own. If someone asks you to be on Game of Thrones or Outlander, you do it! Who wouldn’t want to?
