Outlander season 3 episode 1 is right around the corner, and with that in mind it’s time to share some new photos!
Today, Starz released some additional goodies on the episode entitled “The Battle Joined,” which we personally feel is one that many fans out there will rather enjoy. It tells the story of the Battle of Culloden (painful as that may be), the aftermath of it, and also Claire trying her best to get accustomed to life back in the present with Frank. This episode will paint a picture of devastation, but somewhere within the midst of that will be a glimmer of hope. The image above of Claire showcases where she’s going to be near the beginning of her journey with Frank back in the 1940’s, as she is trying to figure out what her life will look like now. The one significant connection to Jamie Fraser is her unborn child, and it will not be until many years later when she starts to reveal the truth to her. Brianna will grow up in a world that feels like her own, but her father is from a very different time.
You can see precisely how Claire is feeling through her eyes in this image above — it is almost as if she is peering into this mirror and into a separate universe entirely.
Consider this photo the foundation for everything that is coming up in Outlander season 3. The video below, (courtesy of Starz), features Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, Sam Heughan, and others speaking more about Claire’s journey, her tension with Frank, and how she will eventually build a new life for herself as a doctor while challenging a number of societal mores along the way. This also offers up a tease of Joe Abernathy (Wil Johnson), an important new character who forges a bond with Claire while she undergoes work at medical school.
Other key photos
As we press onward, you can see three new images that also reflect the story of Outlander season 3 episode 1. The first offers up a look at Frank Randall, who appears to be showcasing a look of either confusion or frustration. It almost looks as though a ghost has come through the door, judging from his eyes and the parting of his lips. Frank is not happy, and his search for that may prove very difficult throughout the episodes ahead.
Meanwhile, the final two images below are of Jamie and Black Jack Randall, who are both set to partake in Culloden. While there isn’t much in terms of body language to analyze here, one thing remains crystal clear: These men have a score to settle, and this battle is going to be brutal. The photos are striking, and paint a picture as to both the brutality and garishness of what took place in this infamous site. (We really love the color play of the red mixed with the muted background colors.)
