Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers cast revealed: Early impressions

Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers cast

Today, the Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers cast is officially upon us, and there’s a ton to be psyched about when it comes to that. This is the 35th season of the show, and we’re getting back somewhat to what we love about the show. There are all-new players, and the three-tribe format that we’ve seen in several newbie seasons as of late. These are two of the things that we enjoy the most — we could do without the arbitrary tribe divisions, but we’re in an era now where the show isn’t really visiting a ton of new locations and they have to find some other ways to theme the season. We get that.

So what are Heroes, Healers, and Hustlers in the context of the game? The goal here seems to be dividing people on the basis of outlook. Some of these people live their life in a way where their profession gets them instant praise and acclaim — meanwhile, there are others (healers) who do their best to help others without much celebration. Meanwhile, there are the people who live under-the-radar and have to fight tooth-and-nail in order to get what they want.

For the record, it should be pretty clear that we’re one of the Hustlers — and certainly proud of it. That doesn’t mean that we’ll be rooting for this tribe, though, since so much of this game is subjective based on the cast. This is the joy of the game — people often surprise you, and people often disappoint. You never know until you dive into the game, and over time we’ve found ourselves drawn more to the game based on people rather than anything else.

Below, you can see via CBS a full list of some of these people taking part in the season — we’re going to have full spotlights over the coming days on all of these people, so be sure to check back in the days to come for some of that analysis. This is mostly to just give you a sense of the names/professions. It’s the calm before the Survivor storm.

LEVU”- HEROES TRIBE

Alan Ball, 31

Hometown: Houston, Texas via Detroit, Mich.

NFL Player

-This is the only person we’d heard of before the season, and we’re not sure there’s ever been an NFL player this notable on the show who is so closely removed from their playing career. (We’re not counting Grant Mattos.) He was a part of the Arizona Cardinals just last year, but injuries seemed to be his undoing. It’s also worth noting that this is not Alan Ball, Six Feet Under showrunner.

Ben Driebergen, 34

Hometown: Boise, Id.

Marine

John “JP” Hilsabeck, 28

Hometown: Los Angeles

Firefighter

Chrissy Hofbeck, 46

Hometown: Glen Gardner, N.J.

Financial Analyst

-With all of these super-“heroic” professions, a financial analyst wedged in the middle is odd … though we know they can certainly be heroic in saving you money!

Ashley Nolan, 26

Hometown: Satellite Beach, Fla.

Lifeguard

Katrina Radke, 46

Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.

Olympian

-Specifically, she’s an Olympic swimmer who competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.

SOKO”- HEALERS TRIBE

Jessica Johnston, 29

Hometown: Louisville, Ky.

Nurse Practitioner

Roark Luskin, 27

Hometown: Palo Alto, Calif.

Social Worker

Cole Medders, 24

Hometown: Little Rock, Ark.

Wilderness Therapy Guide

-We’re incredibly curious to learn what a “wilderness therapy guide” is, since he sounds like a perfect fit for the Millennials tribe right now in theory.

Joe Mena, 34

Hometown: Tolland, Conn. via Bronx, N.Y.

Probation Officer

Desiree “Desi” Williams, 27

Hometown: Peachtree City, Ga.

Physical Therapist

Mike Zahalsky, 43

Other impressions

The Hustlers tribe feels a lot like the No Collar tribe — heck, this entire season feels a little more like Survivor: Worlds Apart. Let’s hope for a little more of an interesting post-merge game this time around. The one thing that bums us out about the group is that there’s not a single person over 50; when the most-recent season of Big Brother has Survivor beat in that department, you know something weird is going on. We like seeing people of all sorts of ages out there playing the game.
