Derek Hough not necessarily done with Dancing with the Stars

At the moment, Derek Hough is a member of the judging team on World of Dance, and we don’t see him giving up that gig anytime soon. Why would he? It’s one of the best jobs that anyone can have, given that it does offer up a chance to help nurture and see the next generation of talent. Also, it helps that this show is a ratings smash on NBC. So long as he continues to be a part of that show, it’s hard to imagine him appearing on Dancing with the Stars in a permanent capacity. We know that he’s not a part of the upcoming 25th season premiering this fall.

Nonetheless, there’s still a chance to see him at some point in the future — at least that’s what Hough is professing right now! Speaking to Us Weekly, he had the following to say about his future with the ABC series:

“I will never say never … Listen, I’m an advocate for dance and I’m an advocate for entertaining. I’m an entertainer. I’m here to serve. I’m here to serve the audience and to create stories and to serve the world of dance. So any way I can help, I’ll be happy to do it.”

The reality here is that there’s no reason for Derek to ever gravitate from the Dancing with the Stars ballroom too much when you remember his extensive history with the show. They gave him his start in the public eye, and his sister Julianne is frequently a judge over on that show. So long as it’s out there, we figure that there’s always a chance to see him. Even with his other gig, we do anticipate that he could stop by for another appearance or two in the fall/spring to promote some of the other stuff that he has going on. After all, Dancing with the Stars does still use performers who appear in some capacity on So You Think You Can Dance, and this community is fairly tight-knit.

For those wondering, the second season of World of Dance will likely premiere on NBC this fall — we personally hope that we don’t end up seeing the show before then, since you don’t want to milk either the brand or the entire dance/reality TV genre too much.
