Some early Animal Kingdom season 3 premiere date speculation

What could the Animal Kingdom season 3 premiere date be on TNT? It’s too early for the network to have a firm answer. Yet, it’s not too early to start speculating on it based on the information that is out there.

Let’s begin this article with yet another reminder that an Animal Kingdom season 3 is in fact going to be happening! The network confirmed that news earlier this summer, and on the basis of some fairly solid ratings. The series averaged for the network this summer a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is down less than 14% from season 1. We always say (almost like a broken record) that unless a show is starting in a ratings cellar, it will get renewed if it drops year to year anywhere under 15%. Animal Kingdom was able to creep in under that threshold, and it is one of the better-performing dramas on TNT right now in the demo.

As for premiere dates, there is actually a little bit of variance as to when the show could come back. For example, the first season premiered on June 14. However, the second season started on May 30. The third season could theoretically come on the air at any point between there. Personally, we do think that it won’t start in May against just because that’s a little early for most summer shows. We think that June is more than likely going to be the start date this time around, and that’s fine because there is plenty of time to air the full season between then and near the end of September, which is when the fall season begins for some other networks that are out there.

If there is one thing that we wish for in regards to the rest of season 3, it’s that the ratings actually stay confident enough that TNT has a long-term hit on its hands and they can start plotting out the endgame. One of the things that benefited Game of Thrones over the past year is knowing that season 8 is the end. We do think Animal Kingdom is the sort of show that could last just as long, but there’s merit in the writers knowing just how long they are planning to tell the story — you don’t want to artificially extend it far longer than the show really needs it.

When could a premiere date be announced?

More than likely you’re looking at a timeline around the spring of next year. TNT is not going to want to announce the premiere date at a time that is so early that everyone forgets about it in between then and when the show actually airs. They’ll probably announce the premiere date alongside either a trailer or at least some sort of promo.
