Criminal Minds season 13 spoilers: Jane Lynch wants to return again
What we can now that is great is that signs point to Lynch being interested in coming back to the show for more! Speaking per TV Guide recently, the actress made it clear her interest in exploring the story, and this role, beyond what she has so far:
“I don’t know if you’re going to see Diana Reid again. I hope you do. I would love to come back … She’s in a very interesting place right now. She’s suffering from Alzheimer’s but she has moments of perfect clarity. She and Matthew Gubler’s character [Spencer Reid] have a very interesting, very complicated but very loving relationship. it’d be great to dive in to that again.”
We know that Lynch was sensational in the role, and bringing a great deal of heart to someone who clearly struggles with almost every aspect of her life. She’s just trying to figure out her place in a complicated world and a support structure that is on her side, and none of that is easy for her. Hopefully, there are more stories left to tell whenever she is available to come back.
When season 13 first premieres, we do figure that there are some other immediate priorities that the show will take on. For one, there’s the issue of the huge cliffhanger that needs to be resolved — this could lead to Damon Gupton’s character of Stephen Walker being written out, and the introduction of Daniel Henney’s Matt Simmons as a full-time cast member. He was a part of Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders this past season, but due to a shakeup at the International Response Team (plus some pushing from Garcia) he may end up joining the BAU and helping out with some of their cases.
Our feeling is that Lynch ultimately would be great coming back for maybe November sweeps, given that this is the time when you do want your show to make a big splash when it comes to a notable guest star.
