Chicago PD season 5 spoilers: More on Burzek, Upton, and more
Earlier this week, the fine folks behind the official Chicago PD Twitter account at NBC took advantage of the opportunity to share a few different clips with the cast, with each one of them giving you an opportunity to learn a little bit more about some of the different storylines that could be coming on the show.
When it comes to Burzek (otherwise of course known as Burgess / Ruzek), Marina Squerciati and Patrick John Flueger make it clear that you are going to know where they stand pretty early on in the new season. That’s great given that we didn’t see Burgess in the final episodes of season 4, but before that we did start to see signs that their relationship was finally going to be back on track after a broken engagement and a stretch of time when he didn’t quite understand precisely what he was doing wrong to cause the strain on the relationship.
With Lindsay now gone, we do imagine that Burgess / Ruzek will be one of the show’s signature couples; hopefully, that means there will opportunities for some great stuff for the two parties!
As for some other news…
Is some Hailey Upton backstory coming? – New cast member Tracy Spiridakos has gotten her feet wet in the world now, and it certainly seems as though she’s ready to dive into whatever the writers throw her way.
Would LaRoyce Hawkins be friends with Atwater? – He answers this question, while also going on saying that he would be the Hitch to help him get a love interest if the character existed in real life. (We’ve already floated the idea of an Atwater / Upton pairing out there.)
This video is all sorts of amazing for many reasons, with one of the biggest ones being Marina’s facial expressions while LaRoyce answers the question.
What will the dynamics be like with Upton and Burgess? – Spiridakos and Squierciati don’t really answer the question per se, but this is still a really fun video since the two pretend to meet each other in character. (Remember, they haven’t actually met on the show yet.)

To be honest, I’d rather Atwater get his own love interest, rather than the new girl who’s going to probably eventually end up with Jay anyway. lol I mean, we all know that’s where it’s going in the long run. It’s pretty damn obvious. There’s literally no reason to pair Hailey up with Jay otherwise. Now that Antonio’s back, it would have made sense to pair him up with Jay. They’ve been friends since the beginning, and Antonio got Jay the job in Intelligence. Hailey could have easily been paired up with Kim, since the former is already a detective. Why else pair Hailey up with Jay, unless you’re going to go “there” eventually? It may not happen right away or even at all in S5. But, mark my words. Down the road, I’d bet the house on it. I would love for Atwater to finally get a love interest. But, not if it’s not going to work out so they can put her with Jay down the line. lol
