Power season 4 finale delayed due to VMAs, Game of Thrones finale
Thanks to presumably a super-busy schedule for Sunday, one that includes both the Game of Thrones finale airing on HBO and then also the MTV Video Music Awards that are coming on the air, the finale is now set for Sunday, September 3. These are two enormous events that are happening on the same night, and obviously Starz doesn’t want their show to be airing up against those two monsters. this makes even more sense when you think for a moment about their schedule: Outlander season 3 doesn’t start until September 10, so Starz does have that free week mixed in there.
Is there a complaint you can make that Starz doesn’t need great live+same-day ratings for Power and they should just go ahead and air the finale when they had it scheduled? Sure, and we presume that’s probably why they didn’t move it before now. They know that most of their viewers probably have access to either a DVR, their streaming provider, or On-Demand. Yet, they do still care about getting those live numbers given that it looks great on paper — those are also the sort of numbers we report on. What matters most is that they keep subscribers happy, and we don’t think moving the show back a week is going to impact that too much one way or another.
If it does help the wait a little bit easier, let’s go ahead and share the official (extended) synopsis for the finale courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
“When tragedy befalls the St. Patrick family, Ghost and Tommy seek retribution. Tasha tries to keep things together at home until she realizes it will be on her to prevent further disaster, causing her to seek help from an unlikely ally. Meanwhile, Angela uses her own investigative skills and resources to figure out what Ghost is hiding and return of an old friend heralds a call to war.”
If you’ve been reading CarterMatt all season, you know a thing or two about how everyone is reeling at the moment from what happened this past Sunday. This episode brought us the death of one Raina St. Patrick, and it was by far one of the biggest jaw-droppers that the network has done in the history of the show. We’re still having a hard time figuring out how Ghost, Tasha, or anyone close to the family is going to recover from this. Obviously, the person who is suffering the most from this is going to be Tariq, which makes a good bit of sense given the fact that he is the most directly responsible.
