America’s Got Talent results show: Did Dunkin’ Save help Evie Clair, Eric Jones, The Masqueraders?

Dunkin' Save

Tonight’s America’s Got Talent results show was a little more intriguing than most from the very jump. The Dunkin’ Save was back, but there was even more flux when it came to some of the performers who could be eligible for it.

The major question that we had entering the show was strictly this: Would America still support Demian Aditya and Light Balance, two very-good acts, after they both suffered from some technical difficulties? It was not all that hard to figure out that there were scenarios in which the two would be sent home, largely due to errors that were no fault of their own. They both didn’t get to do what they originally set out to, and you have to add to this now the fact that America has a tendency to be super-finicky when it comes to variety acts in general.

There are a number of singers who are near-locks to make it through to the next round. Before the show, we made some predictions clear and noted that Celine Tam and Mandy Harvey in particular had a great shot. Pompeyo Family Dogs were the only variety act we felt pretty good about in terms of their safety.

Of course, be sure to check back throughout the results show LIVE, as we’re going to be updating this piece with more thoughts on the acts who advanced and the ones who went home.

Dunkin’ Save – Tyra Banks announced near the start of the show that the following acts were in need of a little bit of help: Eric Jones, Evie Clair, and The Masqueraders were all in need of a little more help. Of this group, the biggest surprise is probably The Masqueraders, who were decent their first outing but felt more like a sentimental act than a major contender. Eric, meanwhile, has shown the most promise, and we want more variety in the next round.

First act to advance – Light Balance! Fantastic choice. We’re glad that America still loved what they saw despite it being rehearsal footage.

Second act to advance – Mandy Harvey. She performed last, and she performed better than anyone did. Consider this one a lock.

More advancing acts – Celine Tam and Johnny Manuel. Hey, America loves singers. It’s possible that we could have as many as five of them going through to the next round out of seven. Crazy, and FAR too many in our mind.

Last act to advance – Merrick Hanna! This meant, effectively, that Pompeyo Family Dogs are eliminated without even the Dunkin’ Save in contention. That shocks us since they did so much last night. We are happy for Merrick, though.

Dunkin’ Save – Evie Clair. Odds are you saw this one coming.

Judges’ Save – Well, we had a tie vote with Eric and The Masqueraders. In the end, America voted to send Eric on! This was the right move, largely because of getting some different acts in the next round.
