America’s Got Talent results preview: Will Dunkin’ Save help Eric Jones, Johnny Manuel?

Eric Jones

The America’s Got Talent results show is once again coming your way on Wednesday night, and with that, the Dunkin’ Save is back!

Who is going to get it? We’re going to profile that in this results preview piece, while also looking at the bulk of the field in general.

The first thing that is worthy of pointing out in the aftermath of last night is that this wasn’t the best performance show we’ve seen, and there are several people with little chance of advancing. There are also (unfortunately) many singers who probably will advance, turning the next round into something more akin to American Idol than a true variety show. The technical difficulties suffered by both Light Balance and Demian Aditya turn the two into total wild cards, and it’s hard to determine whether or not either one of them is going to be able to advance as a result of that. Viewers may have sympathy for them, but there is no guarantee given that we’re not in the most sympathetic culture these days.

Locks to Advance – Go ahead and throw in Mandy Harvey, who had the best performance of the night last night. Meanwhile, also include in here Pompeyo Family Dogs. America loves dogs, and they gave the grand prize to Olate Dogs years ago. Celine Tam is probably through, given that she’s a kid singer and almost every kid singer seems to be getting through. We don’t know what will happen if she, Angelica Hale, and Angelina Green are ever thrown into the same show.

Likely going home – There’s no way in the world that Mirror Image advances. Meanwhile, Brobots and Mandroidz are probably done alongside The Masqueraders. We do think that Demian is likely done, even if Tyra Banks clearly said that what happened was not his fault. If he was a young singer who forgot the words to his song, maybe that wouldn’t be the case.

Dunkin’ Save contenders – There are five more acts in place to take four more spots in the next round, per our thinking: Evie Clair, Light Balance, Merrick Hanna, Johnny Manuel, and Eric Jones. Who is going to be the odd act out of this group? Personally, we’d sent Evie home of the group — she has talent, but she’s not bringing anything to the show vocally that we haven’t heard before. America, however, will probably penalize Light Balance the most. Viewers love magicians, love singers, and love kids. Light Balance is the only act of these five that doesn’t fit that criteria.

For the record, we’d say that Johnny had the best performance of the five, with Light Balance in second (even if it was rehearsal), Merrick third, and Eric fourth.
