Stranger Things 3 almost sure thing; Netflix series could end after season 4

Stranger Things 3

Could Stranger Things 3 and mark the end of the road for the Netflix series? While that may not sound like enough, it seems that way.

Leading up to the show’s upcoming season 2 premiere this fall, executive producer Ross Duffer confirmed (via Vulture) that some early work is being done already on the third season — even if it hasn’t been renewed just yet — but also that he and Matt Duffer are “thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out.”

In explaining further why, Duffer noted that eventually It could border on unbelievable for terrible things to keep happening to these characters on an annual basis — a sentiment that does make some sense. Even though the series does technically exist in an unbelievable world where there are so many supernatural occurrences, you do want there to be a rhyme and a reason as to why things operate the way that they do. Otherwise, you get into a position where there is just chaos all over the place.

Also, there is logic in the show only running four seasons for a number of other reasons. For one, you never want to overstay your welcome, and with the cult status that this show has we very much see it as the sort of thing you get into only to see it fade not all that long after that. Beyond that, there’s also the fact that many of these actors are young and in a very specific part of their lives. The show doesn’t work nearly as well if they’re all getting set to go off to college or to other parts of the country. The longer the show lasted, the more unbelievable that it would be for them to all be together again. We do think that there could be something fun in bringing them all together ten years down the road for some sort of reunion, but allow there to be a little bit of distance somewhere in there.

It’s probably clear that Netflix would want as much Stranger Things as the Duffers wanted to make, given that through just one season this has become easily one of their most-popular shows. It taps into a certain time period and sentiment of nostalgia that so many people out there love and connect to, and that is something we certainly think the show could explore more of as we get even more into its run. It reminds people of their youth and the spirit of adventure and whimsy that they once had — even if it’s certainly creepy and/or scary at times, as well. All of this is a part of the show’s charm.

Rest assured that there’s going to be a whole lot more news on Stranger Things to report on before long — you can find much of our coverage as it is over at the link here!
