Arrow season 6 and a different sort of Ragman question
Earlier this month, there were some people out there thinking as though Joe Dinicol was officially coming back to the show after co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim misunderstood a question on social media as to when we were going to see the character again. As of right now, though, the plan seems to be to have him back a little later in the season.
The question we wonder, however, is rather simple: Why did we get rid of Ragman in the first place? He was probably an instant favorite among many of the show’s fans given that he has an interesting power, a backstory that was very different than any other character, and a relationship with Felicity that proved to be layered and fascinating. He forced her to confront Havenrock in the face, and it was great for her to have a dark, emotional storyline that was separate from Oliver and other members of the team. We do think that he’s moved more past that now, but we don’t actually know at the moment either where he is or what he’s been up to. Has he found more peace and is driving towards a life of fighting crime? Do his rags have some of the power that they once did? There had to be another way to keep him around, right?
Beyond just all of this, we also wonder if there is a use for him on some other editions of the DC Universe on The CW. Personally, we see him being a rather great fit over on Legends of Tomorrow given that there is so much mysticism being explored over there this season. He is a character who has his own roots in magic and family legacy, and that makes him stand out more among the Arrow heroes. Over on Legends of Tomorrow, he’d feel a little more home. We almost would love to see a crime-fighting trio of him, Constantine, and Zatanna were the show ever to cast her — it’s something that we’ve been interested in seeing in a rather long time. (Hey, check out our recent article on the subject!)
Are there other returning characters this season?
Definitely! We already know that Manu Bennett will be bringing Slade Wilson back for multiple episodes of the series, while there is supposedly going to be a character from the early days of the show that also surfaces again in some shape or form. We’d love to see some other former recurring villains, and if luck were to have it, more John Barrowman — we still refuse to believe that Malcolm Merlyn is dead, given that him going away off-camera like that is just far too anticlimactic a way to lose someone so beloved in this universe.
