America’s Got Talent judge reactions: See Mel B.’s best (before last night)

The America’s Got Talent judges have a tough job. Mel B. Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel definitely are responding in real time to the acts on stage. While the judges may be aware of the performers in advance, the reactions that they often have are priceless. Sometimes, viewers can’t help but laugh at them. At other points, they may make you emotional.

Mel B has some of the most intense expressions to much of what she sees. Her face lights up and her hands start waving. Her expressions actually reflect much of how the viewer feels at home. A bit of shock, a whisper of awe and a verbal expression that blurts out of her mouth without a filter. In fact, she’s become so expressive that AGT put out a video with highlights of her responses (and well, it’s priceless!)

This video came out earlier this week, before the incident on Tuesday when she stormed off the show over a crude joke that Simon Cowell made about her wedding night. Had that been included, this video would’ve probably been even more colorful.

AGT is unique when it comes to the energy of the live shows. Stripped away from the production are heavily produced intros and musical accompaniments. At this point in the AGT competition, it’s about talent. Acts can either perform at a live show or they can’t. There is very little safety net in TV; this was proven true with Demian Aditya last night, and Light Balance had to air a rehearsal rather than their actual act last night. Some of this adds to the excitement of TV, but also at times the frustration.

In getting back to the judges, the AGT responses make the live shows that much more exciting. You don’t have to say what you think about a contestant if it’s written all over your face. The in-the-moment reactions truly offer an element that isn’t found previous to the competition in the season and it’s worthy of watching every show to see when Mel B or Heidi might wince and why.

It’s too bad there can’t be a split TV screen with the America’s Got Talent judges facial expressions as the acts perform live. Sort of similar to watching more than one sporting event. It would be an added benefit to the viewers watching America’s Got Talent; after all, this way they could see the entire performance from the act while also getting judge reactions at the same time.
