Game of Thrones season 7: Emilia Clarke on Viserion shocker
In some ways, we should’ve been a little more prepared for what happened given that the talk about there being an ice dragon is something that’s been floating around the internet for a rather long time. Yet, the idea still is so terrifying that with every step of it happening last night, you were filled with this prevailing sense of dread. You knew where it was likely going from the moment that the dragon’s body was being pulled out of the water, and you got a sense both of the White Walkers’ organization and the sheer power of The Night King to create terrifying things that he can fully use to his own benefit. A zombie undead dragon that potentially shoots ice out of its mouth qualifies as this and then some. It tips the scales in terrifying ways.
For Daenerys, the loss is a little more painful given that you’re talking about a family member, and someone who was close to her even if they could not communicate using traditional human means. In speaking on this subject more to Entertainment Weekly, Emilia Clarke had the following to say:
“It’s a heartbreak … Not only losing it but having that being given to the other side … [In the aftermath of this, she’s thinking that her] dragon could not have died for nothing, so this is now so important. For the first time, you’re starting to see her defenses broken.”
What’s obviously important now is that everyone comes together for the sake of a summit to end all summits, one where everyone talks about the future and plans to stop the White Walkers together. This looks to be the focus of the season 7 finale, now that Jon Snow has more evidence to show Cersei and everyone else in King’s Landing. For the first time, she is in control as to what to do regarding the threat up north — the question is whether or not she really cares, given that she has lost so much in her life already. She is pregnant and that gives her a chance to start anew … provided that she really wants that. If she just doesn’t care and wants to see the world burn, she could just allow The Night King and his Ice Dragon to tear through and ruin everyone’s chances at true happiness. This certainly wouldn’t be a shock to see something like that happen.
Luckily, we’ll find out some answers, and pave the way for the future of the show, in just seven days.
