Once Upon a Time season 7: Colin O’Donoghue on Hook – Emma questions

Hook - Emma

Even before Once Upon a Time season 7 premieres, there are questions about Hook and Emma’s future, and understandably so. After all, Jennifer Morrison is only currently slated to appear in one episode of the show, and with that these two characters/longtime loves are not going to have that much time to be together. The concern, ergo, is that for the seventh season we’re not going to see Captain Swan as a thing. Nobody wants to see that relationship ignored or feel like the past five seasons of the show since Hook’s arrival don’t matter at all.

Luckily, this does not to be in any stretch of the imagination what the folks behind the scenes at Once Upon a Time are planning. There are still plans for Hook and Emma to be together in some capacity, or at least there was before the new curse that changes the show up. How that shakes things up remains to be seen (Hook is going to be a cop in the Seattle community of Hyperion Heights), but all signs point to nothing changing in the end for his personal life.

In speaking on this matter to TV Guide, the man behind our beloved pirate in Colin O’Donoghue uttered the following:

“We saw at the end of last season, Hook and Emma got married and it was a happy beginning as they called it, and they are happy together … That’s a definite, for the fans that are concerned about that; Hook and Emma are happy together. The Hook that we meet in Season 7 is different than that Hook, and we will address Hook and Emma I think around Episode 2 of the show.”

Beyond that, who knows what the future holds? If Once Upon a Time gets renewed for a season 8, then maybe we’ll get a chance to see Morrison then for another episode or two. If not, then maybe she will decide to come back for a series finale or some other milestone down the road. We definitely get the sense that she loves the Emma character and values her deeply, and doesn’t want to see her story feel incomplete. We’re happy, for now, to get one more appearance from her even if the show shifts more into a tale of her song Henry moving into season 7. It’s a huge risk, and one that may not work — still, we’re curious to see if it manages to pay off. Sometimes with this great risk come great rewards.

O’Donoghue also told the website the following about what he was the most interested in playing on this upcoming season:

“Obviously we’ll miss the cast who aren’t returning, and the show is going to be very, very different without them. But equally, I’m as excited to get to work with like [Andrew J. West] or [Dania Ramirez] or [Gabrielle Anwar], so it’s kind of equally as exciting to do that.”
