Big Brother 19 episode 23 review: X-Treme Big Brother-ing!

Big Brother 19 episode 23

Big Brother 19 episode 23 was extreme … at least at times. With that said, nothing will ever be anywhere near as extreme as Jason’s Xtremetard that he won for taking part in the Power of Veto Competition.

This whole episode was a little ridiculous in actuality, mostly because a good percentage of it was spent leading up to the Power of Veto Competition / Outback Steakhouse reward that came about at the end of it. (Note to self: Don’t watch this episode while hungry, and that is not some paid endorsement. We just like food.)

We suppose that the biggest drama that we saw in the episode actually stemmed from the deal that Alex and Elena made during the competition. They promised to not screw each other over and allow them both to get rewards — Alex ended up getting $5,000, and then Elena opted to take the money from her rather than the Veto.

Let’s all be real now: Elena knows that she’s on the outs and probably doesn’t have that great a chance of winning to begin with. She also probably knows that the really great players could get themselves out of this situation anyway. We don’t blame her for a second for taking it, given that this is a hefty chunk of change and it could help her out a lot. We also don’t blame Alex for being super-salty — she lost cash and had to run around and set up a stupid camp the rest of the week thanks to the punishment that Elena pawned off on her. She wouldn’t have improved her standing by keeping her end of the bargain with Alex in the first place.

For Alex, this just offered her another opportunity to throw Elena under the bus and remind everyone that she’s super-sneaky in the game. That’s bad for Elena, but it really doesn’t matter all that much.

The Veto Ceremony surprise

Well, we do think that Jason having to shout in his Xtremetard in the middle of the ceremony was funny … but we don’t think enough is said about Matt not taking himself off the block. That’s actually an extreme amount of trust that he has in the rest of his allies.

Unfortunately, that was the end of the episode — no entertaining speeches, confrontations, or anyone else. This was a pretty boring end to the episode. Based on where we were at the end of the episode, all signs do point to him going home during the first part of Thursday’s Double Eviction.

If you really love Big Brother, this episode was probably worth watching because of that alone. However, we also do think that it didn’t do a whole lot to entertain beyond the gimmicky costumes and the drama that stemmed from the Veto. Grade: B-.
