Big Brother 19 delayed by CBS because of golf; see start time
Because of the latest tournament eating up a great deal of air time this afternoon, the latest episode (episode 22, to be precise) is going to be starting at 8:18 p.m. Eastern time following 60 Minutes. The entire CBS schedule is being pushed back accordingly, for those curious.
There is one major reason why this matters far more than it would on the average week, and it has EVERYTHING to do with Game of Thrones. The HBO epic is going to be airing a new episode coming up at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, and if viewers who are Big Brother fans want to also watch Game of Thrones live, they’re going to jump over to HBO. Remember that there are plenty of resources out there already on Big Brother, spoilers, whereas the fantasy epic is the sort of thing you HAVE to watch live before other people spoil it for you.
We could go on and on about how much we hate sporting-event delays and wish that they would stop, but we’re preaching to the choir. Also, it’s very much clear at the moment that this is something that the powers that be over at CBS have no interesting in changing. They make a great deal of money off of airing the likes of golf and the NFL, and breaking that deal more or less means screwing themselves out of income that comes from them. They’re going to always go with the most profitable option, and often that is the one with the highest ratings. That may not always be true with golf, but it absolutely is when it comes to football. Let’s just prepare you for this in advance of things airing this fall.
Just in case you do miss the episode…
