When does Poldark season 4 start filming? Summer premiere possible
Speaking per the Radio Times in a new interview, series writer Debbie Horsfield was able to provide an approximate start time to the latest batch of episodes, while also saying when she anticipates season 4 actually airing on BBC One:
“I think it has held its own over the summer and so I am guessing that – and it is a guess – that there’s no reason to change that. The thing about the English weather is it’s so terrible and it’s still raining outside anyway so people stay in to watch TV. Everyone’s pleased with the viewing figures and so many people are watching.
“We start filming in September so we have the freedom to air it in the summer but we have no idea yet.”
This timeline for the series is the one that makes the most sense. They avoid some of the summer weather, and then come back in time to kick things up once more in the fall. This gives them many months to work on filming and post-production before having the necessary time to get the episodes together in order for them to air. All signs at present point towards a premiere next summer, much as Horsfield suggests. Poldark was able to avoid substantial competition on ITV in putting the show on during this time of the year, and it also performed rather well. It effectively ensured that, provided that it continues to get these numbers, it will have a season 5 that could serve as the last for the show depending on how some of the books are adapted.
If there is one disadvantage that Poldark has filming during this time of the year, it is gearing up for some of those winter months. Just think of things in these terms: Not only is it colder (but still above freezing), but it often rains more often. This is even with the knowledge that the show is airing in a reasonably-rainy part of the world. There may be some different restrictions put on it coming up, as we start to see Poldark become a little more urban in season 4, but it is too early to know for certain what some of the plans are going to be in that department. We don’t want to make too many assumptions just based on where things are going within the books.

Season Three was a near disaster to me. I hope that Debbie Horsfield handle the adaptation for the rest of “The Four Swans” and “The Angry Tide” a lot better than the chaotic manner in which she adapted “The Black Moon” and some of “The Four Swan”.
