Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Andrew DeLuca’s sister coming

Andrew DeLuca's sister

Are you interested in meeting Andrew DeLuca’s sister on Grey’s Anatomy season 14? We know that for us, it’s exciting! This is a great chance, after all, to learn more about someone whose storyline the past two seasons has been very much tied to Alex and Jo. It’s absolutely useful to learn more about him, and in turn understand his point of view.

With this, let’s dive a little bit more into how we’re going to be meeting said sister, and what this is going to look like within the context of the show. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight from this weekend, Giacomo Gianniotti revealed the news, and also how her appearance is going to enable DeLuca to showcase more of his own Italian roots:

“We are bringing my sister [in] as a new character. She is going to be a new presence at the hospital. She comes from Italy, as my character is Italian, and you get to see us exchanging some blows in Italian, which will be very interesting … Her profession, although we can’t disclose it, is a very interesting one. It’s going to keep a lot of the doctors on their toes, make some doctors uncomfortable [and] some people will be glad about [her coming on]. She’ll stir things up with a European background and take on medicine.”

Culturally, this should prove to be very fun since it’s not something that you really get to see all that much: European influence on a network primetime series. How often do you hear real Italian spoken on an primetime series? It doesn’t feel like it’s all that often, and Gianniotti should enjoy getting a chance to dive into this role just as much. It’s a nice change for his character; anytime that you have gotten to know someone for a few years, you want to take advantage of every opportunity that you can to see them in different roles.

Grey’s Anatomy premieres this fall on ABC — for more on that, take a look at our premiere guide! Beyond DeLuca, we know that one of the other big stories for the fall is the arrival of Megan Hunt. Given that Abigail Spencer of Timeless is now playing that role, it feels very much guaranteed that she will still be alive and around for at least a little while. Meanwhile, you’re also going to be getting presumably more Matthew Morrison, which means that Jo’s abusive husband Paul is not out of the picture just yet. With the milestone 300th episode coming up sooner rather than later, it goes without saying that this is a big year for the show.
