The X-Files season 11 spoilers: Annabeth Gish returns as Monica Reyes!
To be specific, you’re going to be getting a little bit more of Annabeth Gish in her role of Monica Reyes. In a post on Twitter, Gish herself confirmed that she is bringing back the character, who appeared last during the season 10 finale as it was revealed that she had some professional connections today to The Smoking Man. There wasn’t a whole lot of time to spend with her in that episode, but maybe in time, we’ll start to see the show expand further. She first appeared on the show back in 2001, and since then has appeared more than two dozen times.
Gish’s TV resume elsewhere is equally outstanding, given that includes roles on everything from The Bridge to Halt and Catch Fire, Sons of Anarchy, Rizzoli & Isles, Pretty Little Liars, and The West Wing. There aren’t too many other people over time who has been on THIS many shows for more than just an episode. All of these parts were important, but this is where we are at present — figuring out what role Monica is going to have in the Fox show.
The biggest thing that is known about the show at present is this: Structurally, the show will feel reasonably similar to what it did in season 10. There will be a premiere and a finale written by Chris Carter, and they will be heavy mythology hours. Beyond this, there will likely be some significant standalone episodes that you see in between. Hopefully, at some point in the weeks to come we get a chance to learn about some other guest stars, and exciting storylines that could be featured in some of these stories.
In the end, we do hope that all of this serves a purpose in getting the show to a season 12 — given that we’re inherently greedy as a TV viewer, we are starting to look already towards the long-term future of the show as opposed to just getting one more season now … one that we never expected to get in the first place.
