Daniel Dae Kim talks further on Hawaii Five-0 season 8 decision
Just as you would imagine, Kim’s comments on his exit from the show today were every bit as classy as you would expect. Take a look (via TVLine) below:
“It’s possible to be grateful for the opportunity and respectful of the colleagues and the people that I worked with and still maintain a steadfast sense of your self-worth. All good things come to an end.”
Consider this yet another reminder that Kim has no ill will towards any of the various cast and crew members who were a part of Hawaii Five-0, and loved working there. The only issue is that sometimes there are things that are bigger than a job, and they include being valued for what you feel you are worth for the amount of time you put into a job. Given how big of a role Kim and Park had on the show, it’s understandably why they wanted what they did … just as it’s also frustrating that this didn’t happen with CBS.
What’s next?
For those wondering, Kim is an executive producer on The Good Doctor, and at the time of its conception there was no word on if he would actually appear on a regular basis. We do wonder if anything changes as a result of him leaving Hawaii Five-0, but that may be something we learn more about in due time. We do think that in general Kim is going to be a sought-after actor, given that in between this show and Lost, he has a dedicated following. He’s also capable of doing a wide array of different things, whether it be intense action sequences or intimate drama.
Don’t forget that Kim probably has the benefit of time on his side in determining what he wants his next move to be. Because he was so successful in many of his prior endeavors, he likely has the money and the patience to sit back and find the next part that is perfect for him — whether it be on The Good Doctor or somewhere else.
As for a potential Hawaii Five-0 return in the future, we’ve absolutely learned to never say never; yet, it’s definitely not something that we imagine happening anytime soon. Maybe it’s an appearance that could happen either in a milestone episode or a series finale.

I wish him luck. People keep forgetting that he and Grace Park were SUPPORTING Actor/Actress on the show, and they are never paid the same as LEADING Actor/Actress’s. CBS was willing to get close, but it wasn’t good enough. CBS isn’t going to pay anyone on NCIS the same as Mark Harmon, anyone on NCIS:NO the same as Scott Bakula, anyone on Criminal Minds the same as Joe Mantegna. They won’t pay Bridget Moynihan on Blue Bloods the same as Tom Selleck. NBC won’t pay anyone on L&O SVU the same as Mariska Hargitay. Nobody on Scandal gets paid the same as Kerry Washington. Nobody on HTGAWM gets paid the same as the lady who heads the show.
