Major Crimes season 6: How series can use Andy Flynn to its advantage
One of the team members is Detective Lieutenant Andy Flynn (Tony Denison). If fans will recall, Flynn was part of the cast from The Closer, and later brought over to its spinoff, Major Crimes. For years now, Flynn has been used by the show in many different and creative ways. He’s made us laugh, pulled at our heartstrings, and has even made us angry. So after all these years and many seasons how can the show feature him in a way that makes for a successful season?
Basically, it could be the same way the show always has. It feels weird to say that because after 10 years the show seems to be doing something right. We don’t want him to be in a copycat situation; however, the series can look back at episodes that were received favorable among audiences to get an idea.
For instance, some of the funniest moments involving Flynn have always involved Detective Lieutenant Louie Provenza (G.W. Bailey). Early in the series, the pair would get into trouble and would usually involve the pair looking for younger dates. In the current season, Provenza is married and Flynn is engaged so the show can make a light-hearted episode by putting these two in a situation where they aren’t chasing women but maybe trying to find an anniversary gift and someone in the store ends up dead.
We know the series is moving to a new format this season by having cases last over several episodes. So to lighten the mood during some intense arcs, it would be great to laugh at something involving Flynn and Provenza.
Another way the series can use Flynn to their success is by showing him in his marriage. We know, based on the cast members’ social media accounts, that Flynn and Commander Sharon Raydor’s wedding is this season so this will be something new to show. As fans know, Flynn has been divorced for a long time and we know that side of him, but we have yet to see who the married side of him is.
As previously mentioned, the fans love his relationship with Sharon (Mary McDonnell) and by featuring their married life it would be a new dynamic for the series.
By using Denison’s complex and exciting character in ways that were favorable in the past, Major Crimes should be set for season 6, while also keeping in mind that it needs to be new and fresh.

Love ProFlynnza stories. Provenza’s character was what first attracted me to the show. Now I love to see them all in action.

Please note that not every fan of the show is a Shandy fan. I’ll still watch but I know that I’m in the minority in this issue.
