This Is Us season 2: Sylvester Stallone to guest star
According to Variety, it was revealed during the TCA summer press tour and confirmed on the This Is Us twitter page that Stallone would appear in a guest role. His character will play opposite Kevin (Justin Hartley) as his co-star in the film he is working on with Ron Howard within the series.
So far Fogelman told fans that Stallone is only booked for one episode, but that it is still a “big part”:
“It’s a war period film that Justin is starring in. Stallone is coming in as himself in the show but playing a character in the film who’s a mentor figure who starts bringing up some stuff for Justin’s character involving Jack and his relationship with his own father.”
Fogelman commented further adding that Stallone’s character is going to be playing that person in Kevin’s life who really opens his eyes to everything that has happened to him, including a “beautiful monologue about life”:
“He as learned what’s happened to Kevin with his father. He talks about his life experience and loss and aging and the business.”
With all this being revealed a question that comes up is how will the two of them get to talking about Kevin’s life. Was he distracted about something while filming and Stallone notices? It definitely a possibility, considering that when Kevin left New York he was leaving behind the woman who he was fighting for another chance with. In addition, something could also come up regarding his father and his past which sparks the conversation with Stallone leading to Stallone’s “beautiful monologue”.
This monologue is certainly something to look forward to seeing. Considering Stallone will be offering advice, not only about life but about the entertainment industry, it will interesting to see what he tells him. Given that Kevin was part of the television world, maybe Stallone will give him advice on how to navigate the film industry, as well.
Overall, the casting Sylvester Stallone is an exciting one. Despite being only for one episode, it definitely is shaping up to be a highly anticipated guest role. Also due to the fact that it was announced at the TCA, it’s a safe bet to say this episode will be early in the season.
