Crime Dynamic Duos: Psych (Shawn / Gus) vs. Quantico (Alex / Ryan)

In the second Crime Dynamic Duos showdown that we’re posting today, we’re examining two shows that are within the same genre, but also very different. In the event of Shawn & Gus from Psych, you’re discussing two best friends in a fairly comedic show. Meanwhile, with Quantico you’ve got a fairly-serious show with Alex & Ryan alternating between working together and falling for each other. This should be a fun battle, and the winner here one way or another will go on to face either Burgess & Olinsky from Chicago PD or Sam & Callen from NCIS: Los Angeles.

No matter what, hopefully, this tournament reminds you that Crime TV remains a valuable staple that’s been around for decades, and it absolutely deserves so much more recognition than it often gets.

Shawn and Gus, Psych (#2 seed) – We’re super-grateful that USA is bringing the show back for a movie later this year, and not just because we wouldn’t be able to include them otherwise. In between the Gus nicknames, the iconic lines, and Gus’ eating habits they remain one of the most entertaining pairs in recent memory. Just because of the strength of their friendship, we’re pretty sure we could just watch an entire episode about them playing Dungeons & Dragons and not be bored. (Also, Shawn as a Dungeon Master = probably awesome. Imagine the Gus nicknames then…)

Get ready to see Shawn & Gus back on the screen when Psych: The Movie premieres for the first time later this year.

Alex and Ryan, Quantico (#7 seed) – While Shawn and Gus are pretty much solid as a rock on their series, nothing is anywhere close to as stable here. Alex and Ryan are somewhat hot and cold, but when they’re working together and on the same page, they’re virtually unstoppable. It’s ultimately the high-stakes nature of their job that does often cause friction between the two, but one way or another, they often do find their way out of difficult binds.

They’re constantly a whirlwind, but their partnership/romantic relationship help to make Quantico an addictive drama for many of its fans. The biggest struggle here is just waiting for season 3 to premiere at midseason. No firm date has been announced as of yet.
