Should The Last Tycoon season 2 with Matt Bomer happen on Amazon?

Last Tycoon season 2

Are we going to see The Last Tycoon season 2 coming up in the future? While nothing may be official as of yet, there are reasons to be optimistic.

For one, you just have to start with the cast. Look at the people who are involved here! Matt Bomer, Lily Collins, and Kelsey Grammer all have significant name recognition, and they should help to get some people in the door to check the show out — they also have very different fan followings, and that should help in terms of getting a broad audience.

Beyond that, you’ve also got the literary talent of F. Scott Fitzgerald creating the blueprint from which the show is based. there’s already a pattern out there of great shows eventually extending beyond the source material. Take, for example, The Handmaid’s Tale moving on beyond the Margaret Atwood story in season 2 and The Leftovers going beyond the work of Tom Perrotta. There is potential to extend the Last Tycoon story, and we have a feeling that there’s going to be a demand for it once everyone gets to the end of season 1.

While Amazon, like Netflix, doesn’t release anything in terms of viewership, one of the other reasons to be excited about the future is their own reputation of giving shows a second season. Streaming providers often do show a great deal of faith to their original properties. After all, you’re looking at brands that are still only a few years into the television business — compare that to the likes of CBS, ABC, and NBC, who have all been around for over 50 years and have had hundreds of shows. Streaming providers need to establish themselves further still and show that they have a robust roster of programming that isn’t going to go anywhere. There’s every incentive in the world to continue this, especially if positive word of mouth continues to spread.

There is unfortunately no immediate timetable for the future of the show, beyond that it could take anywhere from a few weeks or months before Amazon makes their decision. They could issue the renewal more out of blind faith, or wait until some of the numbers come in before making anything official. We certainly would understand one way or another their timing so long as the show’s renewed; we just hope that we hear at some point in the near future. Since the end of White Collar and American Horror Story: Hotel, there has been a supreme lack of Bomer on TV.
