Animal Kingdom season 3 renewal official at TNT

Animal Kingdom season 3 renewal

There’s no reason to worry about that Animal Kingdom season 3 renewal anymore! Earlier today, TNT made the good news official — and on the same day as they were making headlines at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour event.

One of the reasons why the season 3 renewal is coming weeks before the finale is simply a matter of ratings strength — plus confidence in the story’s direction. In a press release, the networks boasts that the Ellen Barkin series is “cable’s only Top 20 drama this year to show growth among Adults 18-49 in its second season.” It cites strong multiplatform viewing as one of the reasons why, noting that the show “is currently averaging 4.8 million viewers per episode across TNT platforms. That figure includes a +73% increase in viewing through TNT’s website, mobile apps and connected devices, as well as a +11% lift in DVR viewing. The series ranks as one of basic cable’s Top 10 returning dramas among Adults 18-49 for the year-to-date.”

Basically, what you are seeing here is further evidence that in this modern era of television, getting viewers to see your show live is only one part of the equation. It’s also about finding ways to get them to watch via DVR, stream online, or view on their mobile app. The network has planned for much of this as intelligently as they can, mostly in finding ways to monetize so many different ways in which the show can be viewed.

In 2017, you can’t put on blinders to the fact that not everyone watches television the way that they did a decade ago. You need to find ways to make viewing convenient, but also still monetize it to keep a show like Animal Kingdom going. Its ratings are even more impressive when you consider the declines for many other summer series both on cable and broadcast these days.

In a statement further discussing this news, Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT, sated the following:

“The Cody family’s drama keeps bringing more and more viewers back for more … Animal Kingdom has earned its place among a very select group of cable dramas that continue to grow audiences thanks to superior writing and storytelling.”

The rest of the season 2 story will play out over the course of the next month, and when you consider the sort of story this is, it’s probably fair to assume that there could be a cliffhanger. The likes of Smurf and Baz have a tendency to keep themselves perpetually in some sort of trouble.
