Absentia trailer highlights another Emily Byrne twist and more
This is a trailer (see the bottom of the article) that we’re seeing for the first time alongside all of you out there, so what we’re going to do within this article is offer up some general impressions. Tomorrow, we’ll return with more of an in-depth take; this gives us a little more time to watch it the dozen or so times that we need to get that piece-by-piece feature together.
The first impression that we’ve got here is ultimately rather simple: It’s awesome and we have no idea why a U.S. network has not picked it up yet. Maybe this coming out will incentivize someone out there to finally go through with that. (We already mapped out this week what we feel to be the perfect scenario for the show.)
Update: It does look like Absentia has found a home, per the official Twitter! We’re now just waiting for the announcement…
This trailer brings to you quite a number of different things, but what we do feel to be the most effective is the simple-but-complicated idea of a great mystery. More so than at any point in history, this is the time for a quality, serialized whodunnit. Absentia is the sort of show that will generate lengthy discussions on social media and will have its viewers cultivating all sorts of theories. At the center of all of them, of course, is the disappearance of Emily Byrne (Stana Katic) for so many years. Who captured her, why did they capture her, and what did they do to her in that time? These are questions that the series wants you to ponder over.
To go along with these, the trailer also introduces another question that hasn’t necessarily been that out there in the promotional material before now: Is it possible that Emily did this to herself? She’s going to find herself at the center of questioning from the very people in the FBI who she used to work with, so effectively she’s having to get readjusted to a new life while understanding further that her old life is in shambles. It was bad enough that her former husband Nick (Patrick Heusinger) has now remarried and a different woman, Alice (Cara Theobold), is raising her child with him. Now, she also has to face the idea that her old employer has mistrust in her story and some of her actions.
Over these ten episodes, you will see the path form to some eventual answers — and we’re very much curious already as to how many answers you will get through season 1. There is potential for more beyond this, even if there is no U.S. home for the show — though we do believe that there will be in due time.
Now that you’ve seen this Absentia trailer…

This is really good news! There is no doubt Ms. Katic is a supurb actor and it will be great to have a series to look forward to in the fall! The whole cast seems to be very well rounded and hopefully the writing is of high quality! That after all is what helps to make a show worth watching! If the series is of the high quality and deep emotional kick in the gut shown in the trailer it should be a real winner for whatever network has picked it up!

Ok, your tease included the word “network”. If it is on one of the networks at least some of us won’t have to pay a whole lot of money in order to watch our favorite actress e.v.e.r. Of course, however, I will buy any and all DVDs. Thanks for the updates!

I wouldn’t read into that too much — I just use “network” as a general term. With that said, I’d be pretty surprised if Absentia is streaming-only given that Katic has such a big TV fanbase.
