While there were a number of notable singers on America’s Got Talent who managed to get Golden Buzzers in the first round, Evie Clair did not. Yet, we do think that she has one of the best voices of the season, and carries with her a serious chance of making it far and winning. She does have that powerful story, but the important thing is that when she sings, everything else washes away and you just think about the voice. She tells a story in her performances, and her voice would suit the radio well and be relevant in the industry today. You can’t say that with every other singer on AGT either this season or in many others.
In the new video sneak peek below from Tuesday night’s new episode, you get a chance to see Clair’s Judge Cuts outing that as she gives a performance of the Macy Gray song “I Try.” She makes the song sound familiar, but also still tied to her own identity and uniquely hers. She’s not just imitating the original. This gives you much of what you could want from this stage of the competition — maturity, an evolution from the first audition, and genuine talent. There is another golden buzzer in this episode with DJ Khaled presiding over it, and given that all he does is win, he’s probably going to make good use of it during this episode to find a potential winner.
Now that we’ve said that, we really don’t think that Evie has to worry all that much about whether or not she’s getting a golden buzzer. Unless the judges are losing their minds, she’ll probably be put forward to the live shows. While there, that’s when things will start to really get intense given that she’ll be up against so many other talented people, including some of those golden buzzer recipients from the first round who’ve received a little more in the way of publicity so far this season.
As for who else is performing in this episode, there is competition from another singer in Puddles Pity Party, who is showing up to do his version of “All By Myself.” We don’t imagine he’ll be getting DJ Khaled’s golden buzzer — he’s fantastic, but we’re not sure that this guy is really all that into the idea of celebrating singing clowns with booming voices. We’re not all that sure that’s his thing. (Take a look here if you personally are interested in checking out Puddles’ new performance — thanks to NBC for all of the previews this week!)
