America’s Got Talent – Judge Cuts: Puddles Pity Party returns (video)

Puddles Pity Party

Puddles Pity Party is a man of extremes. Even though he may feel sad about the world on America’s Got Talenthe makes us smile profusely. He’s got one of the best auditions of the entire season, he’s completely unique, and he’s got a legitimately great singing voice. The act isn’t based totally on the face makeup and the costume, even if that does add to his memorability.

In the video below, you can see the glorious return of Puddles to the competition with another big (albeit sad) song in “All By Myself.” There’s something very fun about watching DJ Khaled, the guest judge for this episode, become completely mesmerized watching a guy in a clown costume belt out this song. Puddles hits some big notes, owns the stage, and continues the fun pattern of not responding at all to the judges’ responses. There is a genuine Tape Face sort of quality to his act in that he understands that the less that he actually says, the better off he’s going to be and the more memorable a character he’ll be. (Plus, what is he really going to say that would be more interesting than what he’s already doing with his music?)

If Puddles gets the Golden Buzzer, he’ll be put through automatically to the live shows. We hope that happens, but to be fair there’s yet to be a single act “leaked” early by the show who got said Golden Buzzer. Maybe this can buck the trend? (Yes, we are tempted to also go into yet another diatribe talking about NBC “leaking” performances themselves on purpose, which is hardly a leak at all, but that’s probably a discussion that we’ve at this point beaten into the ground profusely.)

As a guest judge, we’re also certainly interested in seeing what DJ Khaled brings to the table. More than anyone else that we’ve seen on the show this year, he has an understanding of what the music industry’s like in 2017 and how people can break into it. Plus, he’s a known collaborator and we want to see him and Puddles do a music video together, once he gets over being mesmerized in his first impression, of course.

We’ll admit that Puddles is probably a top five act for us this season; therefore, almost anything that we tell you think this moment is likely to be incredibly biased and skewed in a particular direction.

Whether it be the latest Golden Buzzer recipient in Angelica Hale or some of the other crazy acts that we’ve seen, you can read more about them now over at the link here.

Also, let us know the following in the comments: Do you think that Puddles should make it to the live shows, and would you pay to see him in concert? After all, that’s what many of these performers on AGT are actually striving for in the long-term! (Photo: NBC.)
