Why Supernatural season 13 won Comic-Con with Misha Collins, Kansas
Think about things in this way — if you’re doing a panel at SDCC, there are a few different things that you’re probably looking to achieve. You want to make big announcements, you want to make your fans laugh, and you want to give everyone an unforgettable moment they’ll be talking about for years. Shall we go through how the show and the folks at the studio Warner Bros. TV executed these, one by one?
1. The unforgettable moment – The band Kansas performing “Carry On My Wayward Son” may be one of the coolest things ever. They basically held a concert for a few minutes performing what is more or less the unofficial theme song for the show, and the entire crowd was into it. The band sounds as great as they did decades ago, and nobody knew that it was coming.
The reaction to the crowd figuring out what was going on here was almost as good as the music itself … almost. Supernatural actor Osric Chau recorded it for you viewing pleasure below.
2. The comedy – Misha Collins and his chair. We know that there were some people online upset over this, thinking that it was some sort of blatant disrespect of Misha, but this was clearly a bit that they planned in advance to mock the uncertain status of Castiel moving into season 13. Everything from the joking about his “prima donna” status, to Misha coming out with his tiny chair to the additional playful ribbing after that, was gold. One of the things that is so fun about Supernatural is that everyone clearly seems to love working and goofing off with each other. While we don’t know how Castiel is coming back, he will be back and that’s everything that matters.
Oh, and speaking of comedy, Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. were outstanding as moderators.
3. The big announcement – We’re getting Wayward Sisters! While the planted spin-off pilot had been announced before the panel, this is where everything became 100% official and multiple members of cast were confirmed. There are still some other clear questions regarding the project, but given how far away it is from still happening (remember that this is still very much in the early stages), we’re glad to have as much information as we do. There are often spin-off ideas that we first hear about in February or March as opposed to July.
Overall, we don’t know how Supernatural could’ve had a better Comic-Con — while Marvel and DC had flashier announcements, with this panel we certainly had a heck of a lot more fun and catered perfectly to fans.

The whole chair bit with Misha was hilarious – and it wouldn’t surprise me for one second if it was his idea. I love seeing these guys goof off together, J2M are so close and seeing them banter like that was brilliant.
