Shadowhunters season 2 episode 18 spoilers: Is Max okay? Magnus’ choice

Shadowhunters season 2 episode 18 is going to be airing on Freeform in one week, and it’s an understatement to call it pivotal. This is an episode that could alter the course of the series, and also the course of a few different characters while it’s at it. This is what happens, after all, when you have a manhunt continuing for a person like Jonathan. There may be some element of good buried somewhere within him, but it could be so far underneath the surface that it’s not recognizable to anyone and wouldn’t be even if it showed up.

Thanks to Jonathan, there is also a major crisis afoot courtesy of the status of Max. More than likely, Alec and Izzy are going to take note that the child is missing — we hope that he’s alive in the aftermath of the end of tonight’s episode, but we won’t know that answer for certain until the next part airs. Maybe Jonathan realizes that it’s better to have the boy alive as a bargaining tool.

Shadowhunters season 2 episode 18 synopsis – “The Shadowhunters are closing in on Jonathan as Magnus is forced to make a tough decision.”

It would certainly help the Shadowhunters if they were to realize that Sebastian = Jonathan, but so far other than Max, nobody seems all that suspicious. Clary views Sebastian as a slightly awkward (hence the kissing) but still a good force in her life, and she’s probably not putting two and two together that someone who’s been so helpful could be nefarious in any way. She’s viewing things through the goggles of the friendship they have.

As for the crisis that Magnus now faces, we know that it may be influenced in part by the secrets that were kept from him by Alec. This is an emotional weight that is being thrown on him, and he is not the sort of person who is used to being in situations where he’s so vulnerable. It may not be the easiest thing in the world for him to digest, and it could make his mind a little bit loopier as he struggles to determine the right thing to do in this given situation.

After this episode, there are only two more to go this season! That’s a terrifying thought, but at least you know that there is a season 3 waiting on the other side.

Promo analysis (spoilers ahead!) – You can see in the clip below the severity of things for Alec and Magnus, as the latter wonders whether or not he can do what needs to be done with Alec still around. He’s starting to close up his walls once more after what transpired tonight. Meanwhile, it’s not the worst-case scenario for Max, but it is also far from the best.
